It’s rare when you see a film that accurately portrays the life of a person with a physical or mental disability.

But Jenni Gold, a documentarian who just happens to be disabled, is changing that with her Gold Pictures CinemAbility: The Art of Inclusion, a film that explores the history of how disability is portrayed in media and the power that the media has to shape people’s perceptions.

The film includes an incredible cast of A-list stars: Ben Affleck Jamie Foxx Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media Gary Sinise Jane Seymour and many more - including actor Tobias Forrest who brings his perspective as someone who was able-bodied for about 22 years when he had a spinal cord injury. Now, a successful actor.

The physical and mental exhaustion from the stress of our modern lifestyles can lead to a burnout.

It is important to identify the early signs before its too late and you wind up in the ER or worse.

THE HEALTH COSTS OF BURNOUT

Stress triggers the release of adrenaline and cortisol in the body.

Adrenaline increases your heart rate and blood pressure giving you the energy boost you need to fight or flee from the stressful situation.

Cortisol increases your blood glucose.

Constant stress means that your adrenaline and cortisol levels are always high. This interferes with your immune system as well as normal bodily functions such as digestion and sleep. Eventually, adrenal insufficiency sets in and the body starts having trouble producing cortisol.

Extreme stress can also alter the physical structure of your brain, causing it to shrink and age faster. This makes your brain even more vulnerable to nerve damage.

NONE OF THESE SOUND GOOD

Im not willing to pay the health costs of stress and burnout.

So the real question is:

How can I stop burnout?

How can I actually do more without falling prey to the burnout cycle?

Watch this space as well be sharing some strategies next week.
